Last year, I was having hosting problems but eventually decided to stick it out with Dreamhost. For the most part, things have been generally stable, but after this morning’s “billing bug“, I thought I’d poke my head out and see what people are recommending lately.

From the looks of it, Bluehost, Hostgator and Hostmonster are all offering over 600gb for around $7 a month. But are they any good? I dont care about thousands of gigabytes if the service is unreliable.

Any recommendations?

Ahh…so that’s why I got email from DH this morning saying I was being billed for my next year of hosting. I recently changed my hosting package so I thought this was some indication that they had changed me from monthly to yearly billing, even though I could swear I left it as monthly. Now I know I’m not going crazy.

I still like 1&1. They do both Linux and Windows hosting, and they’re pretty cheap… Never had an availability issue so far…

I’ve been on GoDaddy for years. They’re cheap and have been very stable/reliable. However, your site will likely go down when dugg/slashdotted. Shared hosting isn’t really industrial-strength.

The only reason I went with Dreamhost is because they offer great subversion support… as soon as I find another host with subversion, I’m switching.

MW was/is hosted on Bluehost since 2002. Never given me a glitch.

I have hosted several pages at bluehost for about 3 years now and I have only had minor issues with them. I have had around 3 other hosts prior to them, but I’m still liking my cheap bluehost.
