In a few weeks, I’m off for a week long vacation with the family. The last thing I want to do is bring both a big honking DSLR and a camcorder, so I was thinking of picking up a small point and shoot camera that I would primarily use to capture videos on. Since I’ll have the laptop with me, the thought of having a small pocket camcorder that just used flash memory (sd, mediastick, etc) to easily copy files to the Mac seems pretty compelling.

While I’ve seen a few out there that can take up to 1280×720 30fps, I was wondering if anyone had any experiences with them. My older point and shoot (Sony W1) can do 640×480 30fps as an MPEG1, but I was looking to go 16:9 if possible. Thoughts?

Update: Looks like the Casio Exilim EX-V8 or the Panasonic DMC-FX100 might also be interesting one’s to watch. Although they record at 848×640, they look like they’d fit the bill nicely.

I think the Panasonic shoots 1280×720 pixels at 15 fps. Per http://tinyurl.com/3aecms
I think this will be my next Point and shoot although the Panasonic HDC-SD1 AVCHD is looking better and better http://tinyurl.com/2usgol
