Furrygoat Reloaded

After taking (almost) two months off from Furrygoat, my self-imposed hiatus is now officially over. While I don’t think that any of my contributions to the noise of the blogsphere are of particular value, it’s still nice to have an outlet for the random stuff that goes on in my life.
Here’s the brief summary of the last two months:
- Finally found a few cycles to dump MovableType 4.0 (which corrupted my database beyond repair) and on to WordPress. While the old RSS feed will automatically redirect, the actual feed is located here.
- Work: The Yahoo! Bellevue office is now “official”. We had some press here, here and here.
- I’ve been spending time with Objective-C and the various frameworks for developing Mac software.
- I’m still wondering about the hype around Facebook and social networks. $15 billion? For what? I just don’t get it.
- Codec wars are over. Just as MP3 is the de-facto standard for audio, H.264 is it for video. I’ve converted my entire digital video library over to H.264 and can happily share content between the xBox 360, AppleTV, iPhone and the machines around the house.
- For kicks, built a flash based portable server. I’ll do an upcoming post on this.
Anyways, more soon…

Glad to hear that you’re back!
Can you share the tool and settings (e.g. bitrate, dimensions) that you are using for H.264 conversion? I’d like to get my video library switched as well and haven’t found an easy way to confirm compatibility with my 360, iPod and AppleTV. Thanks!

Welcome back. I wanna second Thrillho’s question. What are you using to live your H.264 lifestyle?

This closure lasted 51 days — very close to my prediction at http://www.furrygoat.com/2007/09/14/the-anti-blog-a-facebook-status-feed/#comment-2703
