20 Second Review: iPhone

Here’s my 20 second review of the iPhone after a few days:
- Typing was painful at first, but slowly getting better. No where near as quick as on the Pearl or the Dash.
- No way I can type on it with one hand. Guess I can’t text and drive any more.
- IMAP mail on it is great, worked without any fuss.
- I had to buy GroupCal in order to sync my calendar with Exchange. Using Entourage SyncServices to sync iCal with Exchange.
- iPod mode is amazing.
- Finger prints on the screen are driving me nuts - but you can’t see them when the device is on - only when in standby.
- UI is incredible.
- Widgets rock. FInally, a place where widgets belong instead of a desktop.
- Real web browsing. DHTML. Ajax. All there.
- Missing corporate email sync.
All in all, I love this device. Despite the “v1″ of it, I’m totally convinced this gadget is going to change things. While it may not be a ’smart phone’, it really feels like a portable internet communications device.

Good review. The real web browsing is key - the iPhone draws its info power from the Web… http://paullevinson.blogspot.com/2007/07/iphone-not-better-ipod-but-new-species.html

Why didn’t you just use Entourages built in sync to iCal support ?

Beware of Groupcal. The company has a habit of going under every now and then.
Another alternative to get your Outlook calendar to your Mac, is to use the new Outlook 2007, which has the capability of publishing a calendar to a WebDAV server. iCal can then subscribe to the published calendar, but only read-only.

Simon - Hm, I don’t know why. I just tried Entourage this morning, and it worked fine to sync w/ iCal.. Grr. $55 - that’s like 11 espresso’s that I just wasted.
