I attempted to move over to the MovableType 4 beta, and boy was that a mistake. If it wasn’t for permalinks, I’d be moving over to WordPress tonight.

I’m testing to see if I can now add entries, since the new beta pretty much broke my templates.

    Two questions:
1 - Why no just implement a smart set of rewrites, so you can easily support old permalinks when you install Wordpress?
2 - Why on earth are you using comment captchas? :)

Steve, thank you so much for checking out MT4. I am sincerely sorry you experienced difficulty. I hope you realize that MT4 is a “real” beta product. It has bugs. Perhaps lots of them. Certainly lots of them. We do not, cannot recommend it for production use. We released it early in the development process to actually give testers a chance not only to help us find bugs, but to shape the product. Imagine that? :)
Anyways, if you used the import process in MT4, you will find on our known issues list on mt.org that there are some issues there - issues we have fixed actually and will release early next week.

Anyways, we welcome your feedback and I hope you continue to help us make this the blogging product we have all always wanted.

How long did you work at Microsoft? If anyone should know that you don’t run beta software it is you. And if you use your Microsoft experience as a baseline, you really need to wait for moveable type 4 sp1.

Ps. The iphone is a category changing device. Once you have a full web browser all other phones just are lacking. The only problem is that the iphone works great with apple initiatives and is still a tethered iPod. You still must connect to sync. The lack of true exchange support makes it really hard to use as a laptop replacement and it from being a true life device.

OJ - I use captchas due to the massive amount of comment spam I was getting.

Bryne - The problem turned out to be that several of the template tags just don’t seem to work any more. I used the import process, but it doesn’t update the templates.

Slippery Pete - Yeah, yeah. I’ll see you in the iPhone line on the 29th.
