I have two random thoughts about iPhone today.

Prediction #1

YouTube and Apple announced that they’re “bringing the Internet‚Äôs most popular originally-created content from YouTube to the living room with Apple TV. Beginning in mid-June, Apple TV will wirelessly stream videos directly from YouTube and play them on a user‚Äôs widescreen TV“.

From a separate article up on iLounge where they interview David Moody (VP of Mac Hardware marketing for Apple), its says: “When asked what ‚Äúdesigned for Apple TV‚Äù meant, Moody said that YouTube will soon be encoding videos in the H.264 streaming-efficient compression format preferred by Apple TV, and that all new videos submitted to YouTube as of the mid-June launch of the AppleTV update will be playable by the device. From then until fall, YouTube will be encoding its entire back-catalog in H.264 format, adding videos in chunks until everything is accessible to Apple TV users

Guess: Can you name another H.264 device coming soon? I bet we’ll see YouTube integrated in some way.

Prediction #2

Google announced Google Gears - an extension to your browser that adds local storage plus other resource management so you can make your web app work in offline mode. You can get this working with the nightly builds of WebKit today.

Guess: I wonder if this will be included in another webkit device that’s coming soon. If so, it would offer a easy way for folks to offer ‘3rd party’ applications that run both in the browser and in offline mode.
