Linked In

Everyone I know is on Linked In. I’m not sure if they use it or not to keep in touch or just to build a huge connections list, but it seems like every other day I get more former co-workers and friends sending me invitations to join their network.
Heck, a few months ago I removed myself from there, but I inevitably had to go back just due to the number of people asking me if I was up there?
This morning I was wondering if LinkedIn is nothing more than the 30-something’s MySpace?

It’s all about Metcalfe’s law. A couple of years ago, LinkedIn was less valuable than the network you had inside Microsoft. Today, LinkedIn’s significantly more valuable, and you’re no longer at Microsoft.
I think it’s interesting that they’ve added Q&A and are considering providing web services APIs. They already have a lot of really interesting data mining possibilities.
If I were LinkedIn, I would create an analytics dashboard for recruiters similar to what the search companies provide for advertisers — stats on the job market in their sectors and regions, stats on employee mobility (inbound and outbound), etc. I think it could be a highly valuable resource for HR types and maybe universities, bringing in subscription revenues and creating secondary network growth effects.

I am LinkedIn, and I mostly used it to keep track of former fellow students and ex-colleagues. I’ve never used the job searching capabilities, or some of the other fancier features that they provide. For me, it is basically a large who-is-who, and for that, I feel that it is worth the effort.
On a side note: if anybody knows of an interesting IT security architecture position as of October on the East Coast for a CISSP with a PhD, I’ll gladly listen

To Date I have not yet received a positive feedback related to business.
To me this is a CV and extended Profile.
This is not a lesson to Real people who wish to be LinkedIn.
With kind regards,
