Bluetooth, Mac OS X and the Dash

Well, one of my biggest complaints regarding the T-Mobile Dash was solved today with the OS X 10.4.9 update that Apple released. Yes, I can now tether my Windows Mobile phone over Bluetooth and use it as an EDGE modem.
Sure, it’s not the fastest connection on the planet, but it’s nice to have in a pinch when I’m not in range of a T-Mobile hotspot. Here’s what I did:
- Turn on Bluetooth on the Dash, and make sure its in discovery mode.
- On the Mac, pair the Dash to it via the Bluetooth menu.
- On the Dash, turn on Internet Sharing. Go to Start->Accessories and run Internet Sharing. Make sure your PC Connection is set to Bluetooth PAN, and that the Network is set up for data (in my case, T-Mobile data). Hit Connect.
- From the Bluetooth menu on the mac, select “Join Network on T-Mobile Dash”.
- Surf away.
As always, your mileage may vary…
Update: Looks like Howard Forums has now posted some similar instructions.
