[Coding Horror] If you’re only using one monitor, you are cheating yourself out of potential productivity.

I totally don’t agree with this statement - it’s sooo 2003.

A long time ago, I used to be a card carrying member of the dual monitor club, made the jump in 2005 to a 24" wide and this past summer to the 30" Apple Cinema Display at work. Going from 24" to 30" was simply amazing (and eye opening on how much you can fit on a single screen). Not to mention that I found myself far less distracted than I did with two monitors (I can’t even imagine how annoying 3 must be) having that monitor ‘edge’ in the middle of my screen. I guess it comes down to personal preference.

Of course, this is all moot while at home - my home office is going to be ripped out as I’m typically on the laptop.

I’d very much like to sell my boss on the idea of getting rid of my dual 19’s and getting a 30″… but I haven’t figured out just how to do that yet.

I’ve used a single 30″ and two 24″, and I personally vastly prefer the two separate monitors. It lets me organize my content into distinct groups. In web development for example, it lets me use one monitor as a preview monitor with all the browsers loaded. When I use a VNC style terminal, or a VM, I can dedicate one monitor to the other machine.
