Power Outage

Wow. The last few days have just been a nightmare.
The windstorm that hit the Seattle area left us (and about a million other folks) without power since Thursday night. Thank goodness for the kindness of our friends and family who let all of of move around from house to house like nomads in search of some heat to keep the kids warm. It’s been pretty surreal around here - going from store to store searching for D batteries, sitting in 1/2 mile lines for gas, etc.
Last night the power was finally restored, and life is slowly returning to normal. One thing is for sure, this week I’m going to finally get around to putting together some sort of ‘disaster kit‘ for the next time.
Update: To get an idea of how strong the winds were here, check out the front of my sister-in-law’s house:

I got tired of that happening to me; so I solved the problem with this company: http://www.generac.com/ [I'm not affiliated with them in any way other than as a client]
It’s not cheap, but it beats the heck out of being forced back to the 1800’s in the event of most normally occuring power outages.
Several time since I bought it, the power has gone out, and true to its word…it comes right one and I’m the only guy in the neighborhood that has power.

Yeah, I need to get a whole house generator set up. It’s a must have.

Yeah this one really sucked. I still don’t have power yet, but I’m not complaining. My family is safe and our house managed to dodge the barrage of trees that fell all around us. Many were not that lucky.
