This is a follow-up post to my ever-popular Blizzard 2005 and Blizzard 2004 posts. However in 2006, the annual spectacle was actually accompanied by 3-4 inches of the powdery white stuff.

Yes, it actually snowed in Seattle

And when that rare occurrence happens, all hell breaks loose. Microsoft was closed today (not that it matters, I’m currently on paternity leave through Jan 2), the number of calls to AAA’s tow-truck assistance was up 150 percent, garbage collection was delayed a day, it took Streams almost 4 1/2 hours to get home from work, and Randy goes out to buy a Wii. Whee.

Me? I had to dig out my driveway with a stupid piece of large cardboard, because I still haven’t bought a snow shovel after living here for 9 years.

What I found most amusing today was this article in the Seattle Times, entitled ‘Pets need extra care in the cold‘, because it offers such helpful hints, such as "Pets love the smell and taste of antifreeze, but even a small amount can kill them", "Check water bowls to make sure they are not frozen and avoid using metal bowls as your pet’s tongue could stick to the frozen metal", and my favorite "Cats and kittens often nap on warm car hoods. If your car was recently used, knock on the hood or honk the horn before starting the engine."

Vroom, vroom.
