[LifeHacker] Field & Stream online has a step-by-step for creating your very own Altoids tin survival kit, complete with all the gear you’d need to survive in the wild (well, maybe not you, but someone who doesn’t cry if they don’t hear the Windows/Mac boot-up music every morning).

The "Pocket kit" includes fire-starting gear, an LED flashlight, a compass, water bag, iodine tablets, fishing gear - and oh so much more, all stuffed into your tiny little Altoids tin.

This is kinda cool - think I may put one together this weekend, it could prove useful if I end up stranded 200 miles from nowhere. Ya know, just in case.

but the butter question was a bit flaky. too many unmentioned factors. i don’t know if butter contains more water-based liquids than granola. but trying to eat a blob of butter will make you puke.

another question was also flimsy; the “assess your clothing per day” question. i assumed their ridiculous assumption (seen in their answer, on next page), so my answer was a guess as to what (obscure) factor they had in mind. turns out there wasn’t one. :-)

    “iodine tablets”
just in case your struck by sudden case of thyroid troubles. or maybe in case you’re nuked. :-) http://www.fieldandstream.com/fieldstream/photogallery/0,13355,1225788_17,00.html
vague about “medicinal” supplies. I’d include antihistamine.
