Thanks for all the feedback - I went ahead and switched over from Typepad to hosting Movable Type on Dreamhost. Sorry in advance if there’s any wierdness, hopefully there won’t be too many problems with it since most of the templates moved over seamlessly.
If you’re reading this, then the switch was at least partially successful.
