I was poking around the Edmund Scientifics website this morning and came across the ‘Super Ball Factory‘. Looks pretty cool, might be fun to make a few of these to have around the office.

I remember getting these catalogs when I was in high school. Kinda neat to see that they’re still around - there’s not to many places where you can buy a Portable Geiger Counter, a Brew Your Own Rootbeer Kit, a Dissecting Kit and a Wireless BBQ Thermometer in a single swoop.

FWIW, I’ve seen this at local toy stores (Target even, if I remember right), but I’m a little skeptical of the quality of the balls it makes. Filo clay is also pretty neat, if you want to make some stuff and bake it in the oven.

Not as much fun, I suppose, but you can also buy super balls in bulk for cheap. We used a lot of super balls in college. You know, for … um, experiments. Yeah. Not that I would know, but theoretically oranges are better cannon ammunition than super balls, and it’s of course very dangerous to mix super balls and vehicles moving at freeway speeds, so don’t do that.

Check out: http://www.superballs.com/ I remember they were a mini fad back in the late 70’s early 80’s as well, but I can’t find much documentation about that period. A good read is:
