Analog Weekend

I’ve been spending the first part of my vacation just doing those nagging tasks around the house (of course being the true geek, I have a list of projects I need to get done in Omni Outliner) and spending as little time as possible in front of the computers. I call this ‘going analog‘.
The first part of the weekend I did tons of yard work - seeded the dead spots in the grass, mowed edged the lawn, weeded the top of our rock wall and planted a bunch of tomato plants. Of course, planting anything in the northwest requires you to dig a 3 foot hole and replace the all the damn clay with topsoil, so my back feels like an elephant trampled over it. Beautiful weekend here in Seattle though, its been sunny and in the 70’s so we’re planning on firing up the grill and having some kabobs outside tonight.
I also started to read Work To Live when I’ve had some free time. Consider it research as part of my continuing attempt to ’simplify’ things a bit in my life.

There are few products that really work, two are WD40 and I forget the other, but I just found the answer to clay. I live in Sacramento in a big hole that used to be river bottom. Believe me when I tell you this is clay! After replacing most all the clay in my garden I found “Jack Hammer” soil conditioner. This stuff is magic in a bag! After putting a whole bag on a flower bed I came back the next day and am able to sink a shovel all the way in with very little effort. Oh and the tomatoes love it.
