Simplify

I believe that part of my recent blog-rut (as well as my general mood lately) has been a manifestation on how schizophrenic my life has become this last year. Trying to juggle my home life, getting ready for a second child, work, turning 35 next week, constant information overload, and my own obsessive need to keep up with the latest technology has created a whirlwind of things going on simultaneously that it’s just become overwhelming. My brain is melting.
Back at the end of 2004, I made a series resolutions to make life more manageable. 476 days later, I’ve started acting on it (better late than never).
The first step for me was to finish simplifying the number of computers in the house. I’ve moved both Liz and myself to laptops, basically clearing out the home office and replaced the aging PC that I had set up for educational games for Tyler with a Mac Mini. The only other machines now is a server in the closet and the 360 that I have in the theater. This is far more manageable than carrying around 2 laptops and having 6 or 7 machines in various states around the house. I know it sounds nutty, but it was getting to the point of needing an IT department just to manage this wacky setup.
For me, the next thing to do is to ‘think different‘. I found it interesting (and it was pointed out by Mini-Microsoft) on how there’s been lots of folks lately talking about just ‘deciding to be happy’. As usual, Kathy has a wonderful post on the topic.
