A few weeks ago, I was lamenting over the lack of a crossgrade for Final Cut Express HD for the Intel Macs. Well, courtesy of the Apple Support forums, it looks like there’s a simple "fix" that can be used to get the PPC version to run under Rosetta while I anxiously await the Universal Binary:

  1. Right click on the Final Cut Express icon and select "Show Package Contents".
  2. Open the "Contents" folder and double click the "info .plist". It should open automatically in TextEdit - if it doesn’t, choose TextEdit manually.
  3. Around 15 or so lines down you will see AGP. Delete it and put in PCI.
  4. Close the window and when asked if you want to save the changes, say yes.

Of course, your mileage may vary, but I can confirm that Final Cut Express runs. Even under Rosetta, it seems faster than on the Powerbook.

Yup - looks like it’s out today. However, it’s only “Pro” — still no word on Express.

it works…but it still runs faster on a 1.4 GHz G4 iBook than it does on a 2GHz Intel iMac.

Wow they really didn’t take time to protect this universal update: http://www.apple.com/finalcutexpress/download/

You can just view the source of the iframe (the form) and then find (apple+f) “.dmg” and the download url will show up without you having to type in ANY information.

Thanks so far. But it seems that they fixed it already…. Any chance to get the URL otherwise?
