I just saw that the various "system suites" for Office 2007 were announced today and I have to admit, I’m a bit dismayed at the fact that OneNote 2007 is only in the "Home and Student" and "Enterprise" editions.

Even more surprising is that "Enterprise" is only available for volume licensing - so if you want OneNote in addition to Office Pro (or even the spiffy "Pro Plus"), you have to drop another $99.

It’s a pretty big bummer IMHO since OneNote is probably one of the most innovative and useful applications I’ve used in a long time, and it’s sad to see it get sidelined like this.

Update: After reading a bit further, I guess this is pretty similar to how OneNote 2003 is sold today. Still, it would have been great to see it in Office Professional, as it’s such a powerful tool in meetings for both notetaking and organizing thoughts.

Take a look at the application EverNote — it is 100x better than OneNote ever wished that it could be. Pay the money, get Evernote.

Amusingly, “Pro Plus” is the name of a well-known caffeine supplement here in the UK. It’s a little disconcerting to think that using the 2007 Office System Pro Plus edition may result in sleeplessness and nervous jitters.

But I digress. I too am miffed that OneNote 2007 is not available to all (as it should be, IMO).

I tend to agree. OneNote is a great application but Microsoft’s bundling continues to keep it as an “outsider”. We don’t use it here in my enterprise now because, among other things, it’s not seen as a core element of Office. (it’s not like we don’t have the licenses, but it just gets overlooked).

And, I’ve used EverNote in the past and wasn’t 100% sold on it. I liked OneNote better on the Tablet PC, and OneNote 2007 is a major improvement in terms of usability and organization. But of course that’s just personal opinion :)

I’ve been using OneNote since it came out, yes, it is very useful. You’d think MS would bundle it to draw more users to the Tablet.
I believe Onenote 2007 will enable two-way synchronisation with the Pocket PC - will it work with Windows Mobile 2003? I have yet to upgrade to WM2005, iPaq and IMate seem to be announcing great new products, but without any release dates.
