It’s interesting: while I really like the screen of the Playstation Portable, I haven’t been particularly taken with any of the games. For some bizarre reason, even the big hits like Grand Theft Auto and Star Wars Battlefront 2 haven’t really kept me interested for more than a day or so.

As I’ve previously mentioned, it’s been a real long time (Sega Genesis) since I’ve owned a console. The most frustrating thing I find with today’s games is that there’s like 300 controls that make playing a game near impossible. What I want: A game that’s super easy to play that I can just pick up and blast crap. Or something that just is a good mental challenge (Mercury is pretty good, IMHO).

Or, perhaps I should just get a recommendation for a good Poker game instead. What games are people really into right now?

Isn’t it sad when we get old and yearn for the good ole Centipede days. :-)

Xbox Live Arcade man. Twice now I’ve stayed up til three in the morning playing Hexic, Bejeweled, and Zuma. Not to mention Geometry Wars — two sticks and occassionally a trigger (for bomb) — it doesn’t get any easier than that.

I think you would be much happier with a Nintendo DS than a PSP. The DS is a gaming-only device, with no pretensions of multimedia, web surfing, etc. Instant on, instant off, and just close the clamshell to suspend your games in-progress. With MarioKart, you turn the DS on, and three button-presses later, you’re racing. Bomberman DS is instant explosion satisfaction. And Advance Wars DS is the most addictive, easy-to-learn strategy game I’ve played… ever.

I second the DS comment - personally I couldn’t justify the PSP’s high price for everything. If I’m going to buy a 50 dollar game, it is going to be for a console or PC. The DS on the other hand is really affordable and is perfect for easy to learn games that you can pick up quickly.

You’ve gotta check out Super Monkey Ball Deluxe. Available on Xbox, Gamecube, and probably some others. A host of ultra-simple games that all have the one-more-go factor. With a bunch of mates, it regularly keeps me up until way past stupid o’clock.

Do you want REALLY GOOOD PSP games? Here you got some: Mercury Meltdown (although I think you have mentioned it before :p), Burnout Dominator, and Mortal Kombat Unchained. Those last games are REALLY great. Really great. ….. to those who said that a DS is better, do you know what? The DS can be emulated :) (PSP NOT).

bye good luck! enjoy those games
