[Mike Gunderloy] Well, maybe not everything. But if you’ve spent the past decade (roughly, the time since the release of Windows 95) honing your Windows user interface design skills, it’s time for you to pay attention. With the release of Windows Vista next year, Microsoft is changing an awful lot of the rules again.

Mike has a great look at some of the new tones that we’re taking with Vista. Check it out.

    hi furr,
as long as it takes to ui…
you blog great posts but thanks god i don’t have to see your ui in my rss reader. Furr please change the theme of the site, it’s so clumsy…. it’s very clear to read, but it’s just ugly.

Ned - anything in particular you dont like? I’ve actually had people say the exact opposite - they like the simplicity of it. Care to expand on what’s clumsy?

    sorry for not answering ..
it’s just a feeling and it’s just with me - just a feeling.

The simplicity is a double-edged knife you know.

particularly i don’t like the following:
    1) italic for quotes - it’s hard to be read. italic should be used for a particular word only, not for a whole passage.
    2) this purple/lila/violet or whatever color is it for the visited links - it just don’t fit. The blue of the normal links too.

You have the feeling that the text is just typed on the default settings of the browser.. i feel like it’s 1997 again. That’s the main source of this thing i call “clumsy”.

by the way i am strong supporter of the simplicity too. You can see it in my site - http://nednet.us.
It’s in bulgarian (since i am bulgarian) but the theme is still visible..
p.s. you can call it clumsy too if you think so :) but you should make it here because i don’t have comments on the site

I’m not doing anything with the links — it uses the default browser colors for links/visted (thus the blue/violet) ..
