Widescreen vs Dual Monitors

For the last 2 years, I’ve been running dual 18" LCD monitors at home and to say the least, I’ve been extremely happy with the setup. In fact, for a long time, my motto was: "You can pry my dual 18" flat screens from my cold, dead hands". However, having dual monitors was one of the biggest hiccups for me when I started to think about dumping the desktop earlier this year.
I think I’ve finally found the solution - At work, I recently switched from duals to a 24" widescreen Dell, and it has rocked my belief that dual monitors are king. Widescreen is.
Now, the real problem: how to convince the wife…..

I’m a video editor and have been using dual monitors for a long time and I prefer it over a single wider monitor. First reason is that I still get more screen space using dual monitors (3200*1200). The second reason is that I like the separation, it’s like a psychological separation, I put stuff I don’t want to focus on on my second screen so I can concentrate more on my main screen. Now give me dual 24″ and I’ll be quite happy
My greatest fantasm would be dual 24″ mounted on 2 swivel arms you can move around (a la 1st gen LCD iMac), that would rock.

Wide or Not Wide?
Furrygoat has a recent entry on widescreen vs. dual monitors. We have been having similar discussions here. Currently my debate has really been about dual wide vs dual standard, but Furrygoat makes a good point about being able to replace…

Geez, I had to not only sign up for a stupid-ass TypeKey account, but also MANUALLY ENABLE cookies for the external site to be able to post at all! (by double-clicking the security block icon in the IE status bar)
That’s lame.
Anyway, now that I’ve jumped through five flaming hoops..
The real solution is obvious: dual widescreen monitors.
I go a bit further: I run three 19″ LCDs at work, and two 19″ LCDs and a 23″ LCD at home.
