Yesterday, Scoble announced that he’s reforming "Team 99" and accepting nominations to help promote and create a new generation of Windows evangelists by tapping the blogger community.

To be honest, I’m not sure that I really agree with this approach. In most respects, bloggers represent a small section of the Windows market, and are typically more on the ‘power user’ side of the coin.

My opinion is that if you really want to hear more about what’s causing users headaches with Windows, talk to my dad or my mother-in-law. I handle at least 3 support calls a week from them.

My pat answer to any of my family’s questions is “reformat your hard drive and reinstall Windows” because:

    - Once I do figure out what is going on, it usually ends up being a piece of poorly written software/driver that I can’t do a thing about.

    - It takes a really, really long time to figure out what is going wrong. Often times, it is actually quicker to wipe the machine and start over from scratch.

    - The tools to diagnose these types of problems are extremely poor.

As a rule of thumb, I usually reinstall my OS every 6 months or so. Don’t even get me started on how difficult software is to use, even if it is functioning properly…

Oh, believe me, I’m totally on “the software’s too difficult” page.
