Are Magazines Dead?

A few years back, I lamented over how bad Windows Development Journal had become before its ultimate demise. Yesterday, I received in the mail a ‘free’ subscription to Dr. Dobb’s Journal and was actually considering signing up for it (free is free), but remembered the last time I read it: 80 total pages with 45 pages of actual content (yup, that’s 44% in ads). No thanks, I’ll pass.
Are magazines just dead these days? Being totally honest, even the latest issue of MSDN was pretty lame - I flipped through it for 3 minutes and it went right into the trash.
The only magazine that’s really kept my interest as of late is MAKE.

I used to buy Autosport (a motor sport mag) for the weekly news but with the internet I get the news as it happens.
The only one I read is PC Pro a UK PC magazine that has some good longer articals. I skip the news and product reviews section.
So for me they are less relevent. Having said that my Gran still likes her magazines
