PSP: Must Resist

Just great. Randy goes out and buys a Playstation Portable. Now Omar is falling for it. Guys - STOP IT. I keep seeing wild hacks like converting MCE content to it, RSS Readers, etc., and you’re going to force me to go out and get one (but, it is my birthday in 2 weeks.. hmm).
It would seem (once again) that a device’s ability to be hacked sparks the community to create something truly compelling.
I do have a question though: Doesn’t the PSP seem to be the perfect combination of form factor and price point ($250 vs $500) that the Portable Media Center devices should have been?

You do not have one? Dude. Syncing it with a Mac rocks, too, with PocketMac

I still blame the cough syrup. Altho, I have to admit, it earned it’s keep when I was able to sit there and mindless blow up other cars, while my movers were taking apart my house. Need stuff Sony had done with this one. The fact that CodeWarrior has a compiler for it… w00t!

You’re right, the PSP IS close in terms of pricepoint to what we should see media center devices at. Sony can make their money with games and UMD video sales, but other media devices need to make their money some other way (or be like the iPod where they make more on the hardware than the iTunes).

The problem with the PSP is that it has no storage. I’m not going to go buy a bunch of memory sticks. It needs a hard drive.
