[Engadget] The wireless USB protocol will be finished by the end of March, and products for the retail sector will start rolling out within a year’s time. Designed to operate at a range of 10 meters or less, data transfer speeds will top off at 480 Mbps. At Intel’s Developer Forum this week, senior fellow Kevin Kahn demonstrated a USB dongle that fits a standard USB 2.0 port and would allow any device with a USB port to send its signals wirelessly.

While I’ve previously said that ‘Bluetooth is yesterday’s technology available tommorow", I’ve really been enjoying its capabilities with my Smartphone.

Will Wireless-USB kill it? Who knows, but it looks like it just might.

Was bluetooth ever really alive? I mean, jeez. I’ve NEVER used it.

I use BT all the time, but i am a Mac user and Apple really has done a great job on the BT technology. For example, I use BT to sync my phone with the Mac’s address book, etc. I also use Jonas Salling’s Clicker, which allows my BT phone to be a remote for the Mac.

While I agree that wireless USB will get big, remember, some of the hype surrounding BT was just that, hype. Apple is doing BT the way, I originally felt it should be. It seems others felt it was to be a contender with 802.11x, but it was never designed to do it. Yes, I have quite a few BT devices all being put to good use. Especially in my studio. I have a Nokia 6600, with a dummy SIM in it, just being used as a nice remote control for the Logic 7 and Protools. ;)
