As a (somewhat) new parent, the one thing you dread is that call from daycare that something has happened to your child. However, it’s inevitable - a 1 year old toddler is going to fall down, bump his head or get himself into some sort of trouble.

While I was working away this morning, I received one of those calls - Tyler (who’s still wobbly) fell and hit his face on (of course) the metal part of the door, creating a nice gash above his eye. While they managed to stop the bleeding, they thought it still would be a good idea to have his doctor take a look at it.

Fortunately, my building is only about 5 minutes away from daycare, so I was able to get over there pretty quickly. While he had a good cut on his face, he actually seemed pretty happy and was able to get him over to the doctors relatively quickly.

In the end no stitches were needed, but it creates a day that’s draining. Sure, these things are going to happen, but it’s the realization that you can’t protect them 24 hours a day, 7 days a week that‚Äôs unsettling.
