We Can Rebuild Him

As an attempt to solve some of this weeks mac-envy, I’m going to pull in the G4 I built from the garage and see if I can revive it. The box was working fine when I put it away, but I’d like to install a different heatsink (instead of the noisy fan), as well as drop in a DVD drive instead of the CD that’s in there.
This totally goes against my ‘dump the desktop‘ philosophy of late, but we’ll see if the machine gets more use this time around (and will determine if I seriously consider a mini).
One thought I had the other day was that if I end up sticking with a desktop machine, it would be nice to collapse this honking tower I have into a Shuttle case and plop a Mac-Mini right on top. While not as ‘clean’ as just having a dock for the laptop, it certainly would be an eye pleasing setup.
Another option is to just stick the G4 into the server closet and use VNC.
Decisions, decisions, decisions…

I have been thinking the closet route myself, but using a long range KVM solution instead of VNC. Yes it is a little more expensive, but it should provide better response.
