Question: I want to add a folder to the locations that MSN Desktop Search indexes. However, this particular folder is located in C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data, and it doesn’t appear that you can add any folders that are located there.

So:

  1. Does anyone know where the list of folders that Desktop search indexes is located?
  2. Does anyone know why you can’t add certain folders underneath C:\Documents and Settings to the search index?

Thanks!

Another option might be to use a junction point (linkd) to “mount” the directory somewhere else that IS selectable.

    Did you check approcket ?
I use this since a few months and in my opinion it beats MSN desktop search. I tried the latter and the “workflow” is not as fast as approcket which is much more customizable. the only thing it won’t do is search for emails, btu I guess you can run both.

As far as i know. if you untick the “Hidden” tickbox
in the folder properties of “Application Data” you should be able to select the folder to be indexed in MSN Desktop Search “indexing options…”
(i.e.) the folder can not be hidden if you want MSN DS to index it…

How about this CuteType, it is cool, quick and intelligent launcher, and a cool typing assistant
