I saw this in this months Backpacker magazine: A rock climbing robot, called LEMUR, that was developed by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab. The robot can climb jagged and uneven surfaces and will eventually be used to climb Olympus Mons on Mars (the solar system’s highest volcano at 82,020 feet).
More information can be found via New Scientist and on Engadget, as well as some video up on Timothy Wolfe Bretl’s website.
