Star Wars BattleFront: Widescreen

For several weeks now, I had given up on Star Wars Battlefront (for the PC) simply because there didn’t appear to be a way to play it in widescreen (in fact, I’m still looking for a football game that supports widescreen too). Frankly, I’m really surprised that game companies don’t support this option more often as home theaters and widescreen TVs become more popular in the home.
While standard ‘letterbox’ (on the top and bottom) never bothered me, black bars on the left and right sides of a picture drives me nuts.
Last night, I received an anonymous comment that pointed me to the Star Wars Battlefront Tweak Guide where they have a list of really interesting tips and modifications.
From the guide it looks like you can either modify the vidmode.ini file to include the resolution you want, or simply change the command line that runs the game to:
battlefront.exe /resolution [width height]
I’ll give this a try when I get home and report the results.

This is what the Xbox is for
A lot of Xbox games support 16:9.
Microsoft’s NFL Fever 2004 supports 16:9, and you can get it in the company store:
http://games.teamxbox.com/xbox/702/NFL-Fever-2004/
Unfortunately, it’s the end-of-the line. Madden 2002 supports 16:9, and possibly later versions do too.
Supposedly ESPN NFL 2K5 supports widescreen, although I’d check the box. (TeamXbox shows that it doesn’t, and HDTVArcade shows that it does.) One of my coworkers was praising it earlier today as the finest football game ever made.
http://www.hdtvarcade.com/xboxlist.htm has a long list of games that support various HDTV modes and 16:9.
Of course, the most important game that supports 16:9 is Halo 2. Get it, and we can play online together (our wives will love that).
