A few weeks back, I commented on how I really didn’t think that the AudioVox 5600 was “exciting”. Scoble remarked on it, and had some additional comments, but I decided to go ahead and give the AudioVox a whirl to see how it compared to my current MPX200.

Here we are two weeks later, and I’m still on the AudioVox. While I still maintain that it’s not the easiest to use for writing emails or SMS messages, I have to admit that the phone is pretty damn good. There, I said it.

I’ve been really happy with both the screen quality (it’s really bright), and the overall performance of the phone. It just feels faster. Having a built in camera has been pretty cool (it’s fun to MMS the wife), and I can see having Bluetooth will be pretty convenient once I pick up a headset this weekend.

While it does almost everything that I need (except have built in WiFi), my only real complaint at this point: the cursor pad (is that what you call the navigation thingie?). After using it for a few minutes, it really hurts my thumb.

The cursor pad is the only thing that annoys me too. Pressing it to hit ‘enter’ or going left/right are annoyingly difficult.

After reading your post about T-mobile dropping port 80, I have a question:

Microsoft just hooked me up with a free 5600 out at a training conference in L.A. and I have been considering using it on T-mobile(since the girlfriend already has service on T-mobile, and I had heard all about the T-zones fun).

While I’m not really interested in using the phone to bridge my laptop, I am interested in browsing/pulling email to the phone itself. Have you had any issues doing this over your T-zones service?

I had to switch over to the full internet service to get my email.

What’s that?? You had to upgrade your service to get e-mail and internet thru T-mobile?? I just bought a 5600 with the hopes of just dropping in my sim card. I get internet through my current T-mobile phone. You still have to upgrade your service?? THAT SUCKS!! I haven’t even got the phone in the mail yet…

I have a Cingular phone which I unlocked and now I have a tmobile chip i am using. The phone works great but I am having trouble accessing the internet with just my tzones. I had the unlimited internet access service for a day but cancelled it because I couldn’t configure the data settings correctly. Can anyone help in having the correct settings? I think they are currently defaulted with Cingular settings.
