Wow. Anapod Explorer is the perfect app for the iPod.
Besides having total shell integration and a lightening fast transfer speed, I can even browse my iPod via Internet Explorer, stream music from the Ipod to Windows Media Player, and even query the Ipod via SQL (hm, I wonder if there’s an API to access this). And yes, you can copies files off of the Ipod with it.
The complete feature list is here. Incredible for only $25.

I’ve been using RedChair’s Notmad Explorer for my Creative Zen for a month or two now, and I’ve been very pleased with it. Now I can’t imaging having a large capacity digital player without having such a utility.

I agree on the library bit, but since I let iTunes greedily take every MP3 I’ve got, I haven’t had a conflict… I still like their library management better than WMP, though, so that too hasn’t been a conflict. I still like Xplay, for it’s Here’s an iPod/HD – drag and drop away which it looks like Anapod has.
I *am* impressed that they are supporting multiple devices – that’s the key to making a business like this work.

Be careful. The trial edition works great with the 4th generation iPods, but the pay version is not supported. I had the activation process fail completely for me with no workaround. I found this out the hard way. Their support department assures me that support is coming soon, but it’s not here yet. HTH.

I know I might not get a reply but can someone tell me if I can just copy my music folders (which also contain data files) to the ipod using this software while retaining their original file names and the like? (Just like a normal USB drive) I have tried with itunes but it places them randomly inside some wierd hidden folder with random alphanumerical folders. It’s crap. I want to transfer music to ipod then delete off my PC. Then when I need to, transfer the files back to PC just like originals. This is what is holding me back from getting an ipod.

It is not possible to just “drag” a folder to iPod, because the music is in a folder, and then there’s a database with tags that describe your music. The playlists, genres, tracks, etc. are dynamically created from tags. iPod is designed this way so that the player sorts through the smaller database of tags to create playlists, and does not have to parse huge amounts of music files for tag information…this design is definitely NOT crap…. You CAN drag a music folder to the iPod as data through the letter, and later recover it, but then iPod will not know how to sort it and organize it on the screen of the player…What I do is keep my music on a big drive with its tags, and keep all those songs again on ipod. …what is crap is iTunes …that’s why Anapod exists, because I bet if iTunes was really good, people wouldn’t need any other software…and Anapod wouldn’t have to be developed anyway…if you have folders on your computer that contain music files, and other types of files, and then you want to do whatever you want efficiently with iPod…then you should start organizing things by type, and keep music apart from other stuff…

I need some help concerning Anapod Explorer. I plan to buy a 60 gig ipod but understand that they are difficult to program. Then came Anapod. I am an entertainer and have 4000 mp3 files in my computer and would like to transfer them to an ipod using Anapod. Is it as easy as I am led to believe? What I would like to do is create a folder or multiple folders on an ipod and then drag or copy my mp3’s to the various folders.
I currently use 2 Archos 20 gig Jukebox Recorders. These are the original hard disc recorders and a pleasure to use. To program these players you just connect them to your computer with a USB cable and drag or copy and paste your files to the player. Plain and simple. You can also do this with a folder.
I want to upgrade to a 60 gig player but archos does not offer one. I checked out Creative’s Zen 60 gig player but they are going to be obsolete. I checked with a company Rep yesterday and this is what I was told.
I would appreciate any comments.

I hope I just missed reading it.. But do they have support for album art? Itunes does and I was hoping anapod would have the same
