[Omar Shahine] Donovan has posted a preview of the managed OneNote API that I collaborated on. Donovan did most of the heavy lifting and is the papa of the actual Data Import API in OneNote. The managed interface that we worked on provides a very rich way to interact with OneNote using C# or VB.NET. This is what my and David’s upcomming PowerToys are built on.

For anyone out there, I would love to see a faceless sys tray app that sucked my messenger history into a OneNote section. I don’t have time to build this myself, but if you are interested in doing this download the files from Donnovan and start coding!

The managed API that they put together is extremely useful for building OneNote input extensions. In fact, I’ll talk about two of them that I have completed (ok, I’ll admit it - I had an early look at the API) and will post over the weekend that use the managed API.

  • OneNoteThis - A plugin that implements the IBlogExtension interface so you can directly send blog entries from your aggregator using RSS Bandit, SharpReader or Newsgator (or any other reader implementing IBlogExtension)

  • CodeToOneNote - A VS.NET 2003 extension that sends highlighted code blocks to a page in OneNote.

As I mentioned, I have some minor cleanup to do with them over the weekend, but will have them posted with screenshots, etc.
