Comments on Visualizing Blogs

Lots of interesting feedback and comments on using Treemaps for blog visualization, including the following:
[John Robb] I like the visual representation of RSS feeds at Furrygoat. What would be more useful for me is if the size of the post rectangle was dependent on the number of comments, trackbacks, and clickthrough traffic to the permalink.
[SmartMobs] the furrygoat experience has implemented the visualization work of my friend, Marc Smith, to create a visual treemap of blogs. One of the comments on SmartMobs also references a visualization tool for hard drives called SequoiaView.
[Laura John] I can see that one of the feeds is Chris Sells, but my eyes gave out trying to see the rest. It’s very cool the amount of information you can represent with color, size and quantity. Heh. Wonder what Scoble’s would look like?
[syaffolee] You know, if this catches on, it’ll start appearing on the science portion of the ACT. As for my own gut reaction when seeing this mess, it’s ridiculous trying to cram in so much information into something graphical. Give me the raw numbers any day.
[Brian Dennis] I think he undersells the potential of this technique a bit. A bit stale, but mainly interesting for the link to a .Net TreeMap control.
I’m planning to spend some more time this weekend continuing to explore this. Hopefully, something interesting will pop up.
