Found this post from Matt Tavis up on the on my daily read of the .NET Remoting newsgroup:

My name is Matt Tavis and I am a Program Manager for Microsoft on the XML Web Services team.In an effort to better understand the actual customer uses of the SoapFormatter, I am asking for feedback on the real world implementations of the SoapFormatter technology. Specifically, I am looking for the following types of information:

  • In what context are you using the SoapFormatter? (e.g., remoting, file serialization, …)

  • Why are you using the SoapFormatter? (e.g., interop with WebServices, interop with other platforms, human readable serialization, …)

  • Why are you using the SoapFormatter over other technologies? (e.g., XmlSerialization, ASP.NET Web Services, …)

  • What features of the SoapFormatter are critical to you? (e.g., serialization control via Soap attributes, Soap/Xsd types, full type fidelity with CLR types, …)
  • Please feel free to send responses directly to me at mattavis@microsoft.com or post them as replies to this item. Thanks in advance for your candid feedback.

So if you’re using SoapFormatter, let Matt know.
