R.I.P. Windows Developer Magazine

Well, I’ve mentioned previously how bad Windows Developer Magazine has gotten in the last year.
Today, I opened my mailbox to find Dr. Dobbs Journal, with an attachment on the cover saying that there was “Good News for Former Windows Developer Magazine” subscribers - they’ve extended my subscription, going to be sending me DDJ, etc. Looks like the fat lady has sung for good ole WinDev magazine.
While DDJ offers better technical content that WinDev, I had cancelled a subscription to 4 years ago because I just didn’t find the articles interesting. This months issue offers 80 total pages with 45 pages of actual content (yup, that’s 44% in ads). None of the articles were that interesting either.
Is it just me or do weblogs just offer more meaty content than magazines? I’ve read more about exception handling from Chris Brumme, WinFx from Brad Abrams and Avalon from Chris Anderson than I’ve ever seen in any magazine. Perhaps this is “end game” for developer magazines.
