[Rands in Repose] The point is this: There’s an adoption curve on new technology. At the peak of that curve, the technology has sufficient value that it will appeal to a significant population that will make it successful. Alpha Geeks will have you believe the time to jump on the curve is as soon as possible because, really, you don’t want to miss a thing, right? You’ve got N.A.D.D…. that means there’s no difference between ignorance and a lobotomy.

I used to be one of these Alpha Geeks Rands talks about (I’m sure some will argue that I still am), but I generally agree with him. I’ve significantly ’slowed down’ recently on gadget adoption lately - for two reasons really: 1) Because I’m tired of these devices gathering dust after a few months, and 2) Between a new house and a baby on the way, I just don’t have the time/money to spend on new gadgets anymore.

Rands hits the nail on the head about the PDA/Smartphone market and technology adoption in general though. Well worth the read.
