Finally got the pictures up from Banff. John was asking about some interesting things to do in Banff:
Check out both Lake Moraine and Lake Louise. While they are close to each other (only a few miles), there’s striking differences to the way they look and feel. Moraine is jagged and hostile, almost wild while Louise is calm, relaxing. I’d recommend taking a hike up to the Teahouse, but for us it was closed down due to a grizzly bear sighting.
While you most certainly will take a drive up Tunnel Mountain Road in Banff (it’s where you get to see the traditional view of the Fairmont), I’d highly recommend taking a quick hike up the Tunnel Mountain Trail. It’s a short 1.3 mile hike, but you get a fantastic view from the top.
Of course you have to drive 3 hours north to the Columbia Icefields - it’s just incredible.
Finally do the hike through Johnston Canyon. It’s easy to find, right off the Bow Valley Parkway. The falls are beautiful and the hike is simple (no elevation gain really). You can enjoy nature at it’s best, with 500 of your closest friends (there were so many people here, it drove me nuts).
