TOCs and Indexes and Bears! Oh my!

One of the things that I’ve always found frustrating when “reading” a technical book, is that when I want to look up a specific question, such as “How do I send a message over a datagram socket?”, it usually involves going to either the table of contents, or the index to look it up. In this case, you can easily look under “datagram” or “socket” or “TCP/IP” or “connectionless”. Its not a major problem by any means, but I thought it would be interesting to provide an additional means to looking up information in Pocket PC Network Programming.
Here’s the idea: We placed a Frequently Asked Questions list on the inside of the book cover (both front and back). The FAQ consists of a list of questions, such as “What are the differences in WinINet on Pocket PC versus Windows XP?”, and what page the question is answered on.
Hopefully, people will find it useful.
On that note, I’ve just returned the index to Addison Wesley. I think that’s it – I’m offically done. Time to go to the printers.
