CNET today reported that Gnutella creator Gene Kan has died. According to John Robb’s Weblog:

Gene Kan killed himself according to Internet detritus. There is no doubt in my mind this is entirely due to the collapse of his ideas in the commercial marketplace. Another failure of the world to mismatch minds vs. problems. Minor inefficiencies in our economy resulted in this.

Regardless, this sadly reminds me of when Blair Newman died in 1990. Blair, an avid poster to The Well, first committed electronic suicide by deleting all his posts, then took his own life. Read the details here.
