Well, it’s been a few days since the last update, and there’s lots of little news blurbs to write about, so, here we go:
Both Ingo Rammer and Peter Drayton put links right back to here on their must-read weblogs. These guys definitely have their act together and provide some great daily reading on the .NET world. Thanks guys!
If you’re looking for a great way to implement .NET Web Services from within Word, Excel, etc., check out the Microsoft Office XP Web Services Toolkit. The kit provides a really easy way to integrate web services through VBA macros. Simon Fell has done some great work implementing his blog posting through Microsoft Word and PocketSoap. Very cool stuff, and definately just the beginning of the awsome potential of web services.
Also, as many have already reported, Google has made their incredible search engine available to Web Services through a new Google Web API. Peter Drayton has already hooked it up to RSS and has provided a neat utility, Google2RSS, that searches google and spits out an RSS feed with the latest 10 entries.
Microsoft has posted a great article (pointed out by Sam Gentile) about Implementing a Custom Common Language Runtime Host.
Finally, some more details on the new book, which I begin to write this weekend. The books “goal” is to be the definitive reference guide for Network, Communications and Synchronization programming on Pocket PC 2002, Pocket PC 2002 Phone Edition and SmartPhone 2002 devices. I am planning on covering everything from basic winsock through the .NET Compact Framework and it’s usage of Web Services. It’s funny when you write a book - you spend months and months going back and forth with the publisher, preparing table of contents, writing proposals, and ironing out details. When the time comes (4 months later) to actually sit down and start writing, there’s so much energy built up around the project it can seem almost overwhelming. But, I am honestly excited about this project, I just hope I can write something that people are really going to find essential. Ok, time to start the Preface….
